The University at Buffalo is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The University at Buffalo has approximately 24,000 students. Approximatley Two-thirds are undergraduate students and one-third are graduate and professional students. Our network covers two campuses (connected via fiber) consisting of approximatley 100 buildings (including residence halls). We also have WAN connections to approximatley 20 downstream sites, including teaching hospitals, off-campus University locations, library and administrative resource networks, etc. Our core backbone consists of 7 layer-3 switches, connected via gigabit ethernet. Those switches feed building subnets with 100Mbps and Gigabit eithernet links. Distribution within building subnets is primarily via 10/100Mbps ethernet switches and hubs. We service approximately 200 class C subnets. We have OC3 (155Mbps) PoS (Packet over Sonet) connections to Internet1 and Internet2. Our Internet2 connection is served via NYSERnet. NYSERnet provides a network that runs across New York State, from New York city to Buffalo. The NYSERnet network has connections into the vBNS+ and Abilene. The BUF PMA monitor is connected between NYSERnet's router and Buffalo's router (OC3 PoS), via a fiber tap.
